Highlighters; you can either take ‘em or leave ‘em. I usually don’t wear it on a daily basis but I learned what shades worked for me so I wouldn’t look weird on those days that I do feel like highlighting my cheekbones. This “guide” presents the best shades that suit each skin tone so let me know if you agree (or have another shade) in the comments!
Fair: Pearl or pale pink
The skin tone with the hardest time finding their shade, fair-skinned folks will need to find something that is either a “nude” shade or a shade or two lighter than their skin tone. Almost like a silver sheen, if you will.
Example: Physician’s Formula Butter Highlighter (Pearl) $11
Light to Medium: Gold or yellow
Medium skin tones are lucky in that most highlighting palettes or compacts are geared toward this group of people. For the most natural-looking glow, opt for a champagne or gold-ish shade. But people under this category can also try pale pink or iridescent colors as well.
Example: Makeup Revolution Euphoric Gold liquid highlighter $9
Olive to Tan: Peach or Coral
Due to the amount of yellow undertone for olive skin, peach-toned highlighter balance everything out and make your skin look healthy and fresh.
Example: Covergirl Peach Scented Highlighting palette $9
Dark to Deep: Bronze or deep gold
I fall into the “Dark” category and can attest to the beauty of a deep gold highlight on my face. People with darker skin can’t wear bright tones as it gives skin a washed-out sort of look but bronze or a dark gold makes skin glow.
Example: Maybelline Facestudio Master Strobing Stick Illuminating Highlighter (#300 Gold) $10
